Most Commonly Used Paints

To make your homes decorative, paints are the most basic and common methods that are used to create depth, illusion and color on the surface. With the changing time and advancement of technology, different types of paints have come into the market from time to time. There are two types of paints used most extensively i.e. Latex (water based) paints and oil based paints.

Latex paints
One of the best features of these paint masks is that these do not get yellow with the passage of time. Hence, these are safe and good for the environment. These paints dry up extremely fast. These paints are easy to clean with soap and water. These paints due to their unique features are now heavily available in the market and painters make use of these paints to get the beautiful colors. However, apart from the various features, it has certain disadvantages also such as it swells the wood thus, making a sanding in between the coats a requirement and need.

Oil based paints
This paint mask goes on smoothing as it gets old. It covers up the surface in one coat only. It has less shrinkage in comparison to the other paints. In fact, this paint takes much longer time to get dry. It is ideal to be used in areas where there is heavy traffic as it holds well there only. On the contrary, it has certain disadvantages also such as it gives out fumes that can be overwhelming. With the passage of time, it gets yellow, fades away and cracks at places. The brushes that are used to paint has to be cleaned up with solvents meant for the cleanup such as turpentine oil and mineral spirits only then they get cleaned up. However, these are harmful chemicals and hence have to be handled carefully.

As a matter of fact, as oil based paints contain harmful chemicals, hence, you should never drain them out. There are agencies that have regulated the waste policies. Hence, while disposing, you must follow the policies as mentioned by the authorities.

Apart from this, you must observe some precautionary tips to avoid any harmful effects of these paints such as while working with paints, you must wear gloves so that the paints do not come directly in touch with your skin. If you are working with wood, then must consider oil based paint. On the contrary, painting a wall, or if working to create simple effects, then you must use latex paint.

Hence, you have to be careful enough to carry out the whole process of painting with utmost care and precaution.
